Remove Pop-up Notify of Avast and Avira Free Antivirus

User of these two free antivirus programs are certainly often annoyed by popup that appears to remind its users, especially for the antivirus Avira when the computer start up or restart. To remove it try to use the following trick:

Win7:
From Control Panel and launch the Administrative Tools. Click Local Security Policy and the Software Restriction Policy option select Additional Rules. Right click in the right panel and select the Additional Rule -> New Path Rule. Click Browse and locate the file avnotify.exe, then set Security Level to Disallowed, click Apply and OK. Exit Administrative Tools.

WinXP: Run the following command in the Run menu cacls “%SYSTEMDRIVE%\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir Desktop\avnotify.exe” /e /d username Where username is the user's Windows login name. Or you can also use ClickOFF

Windows Vista:
Right-click on avnotify.exe file, select Properties. On the Security tab, select the username SYSTEM and click Edit. Checklist Deny for Read and write options.

Edit the hosts file and enter the following list: 127.0.0.1 program.avast.com Hosts file for Windows Vista and 7 can be found at: C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\or%systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc As for Windows XP is on: c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
